Safa: KRC Consultative Status ( ECOSOC)


The Secretary General of Khiam Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture, Mr. Mohammad Safa, has announced that the center has obtained the consultative status in the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC).

The meeting of the members of the Committee, composed of 19 countries, had held its meeting on the 28th of May till the 2nd of June 2010 at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The committee recommended giving the consultative status to Khiam Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture .

Safa said, "We donate this achievement to Aman Network and to the International Organizations that defend human rights to activate and develop the human rights movements and to confront all torture and violent acts in the region, an d contribute actively in the institutions and mechanisms of the United Nations.”
Safa added that this achievement belongs to all human rights defenders and all the workers in the field of rehabilitation and fighting torture.
Safa thanked the Lebanese Mission to the United Nations for supporting the request of the Center. He also thanked all the Arab and foreign countires who contributed in facilitating the consultative status for the Center.”
